“They say that in the old days, love drove people to madness. That’s bad enough. The Book of Shhh also tells stories of those who died because of love lost or never found, which is what terrifies me the most. The deadliest of all deadly things: It kills you both when you have it and when you don’t.”
Lauren Oliver depicts apart love in her book Delirium. She creates a world where love is so dangerous that everyone must submit to the law and have a medical procedure by the time they are 18 so that love will not touch them. This concept immediately drew me in. Imagine a world where there is a cure for love. Imagine a world without love. Imagine a world where you never thought to question everything you’ve been told as a child. Now imagine that everything you ever knew or thought was a complete lie. Set in motion from the first page, this book will drag you into this world where you will long for a cure and fight against the madness of it.
