John Green's latest novel, The Fault in Our Stars, is based on an ill fated love affair that is doomed from the start, not from the traditional reasons why of being too young or parents that disapprove but by something so much bigger - cancer and the ways in which it can take down someone so quickly. I wish I could say this is a feel good book but I can't. It's not. It's deeper than that. It commands it's own presence, much in the way that cancer does to someone you love.

My favorite quote from the book is on the last page, "You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world, old man, but you do have some say in who hurts you."
